HI FSBONES ,

Not sure if any of you still remembered this blog anot , but then here goes .

I remembered during the ACJC band interview , they asked something about my SL position and my answer to that was that ' It was fullfilling , after seeing how the juniors improved from time to time '

Inspiration I Concert would be my first performance without seniors which means it's

my first performance with an entirely new section people whom I had never talk or played together with . All I knew was that I could not let the section's standard drop or collapsed . It was after all , what Brenda left behind for me , and then maybe it's this sense of responsibility that kind of made me serious in sectionals and always exploding somewhere before major performance when the section couldn't play well .

All the way through Cultural Night , SYFs and other performances .

There were good memories , such as having fun with the section during sectionals , outing etc and then bad ones such as , often going for sectional and realised the whole section just PS you for sectionals without telling you . Over time , I have also realised that the section had proven themselves more than just juniors to me , and more like friends .

Seeing the section improving which I find it rather fullfilling , maybe that's what motivated me to continue in band and improve on my own playings ...

Seniors too , you all always managed to brighten up my band days .

So thanks Brenda , Cheryl , Natalie Lim , KaiYan , KahYan , XiYan and XinYi for being my senior as well as your guidance .

And also thanks Siewru , Rouyi , Jiawei , Xinmin , Sheryl , LeeCheng , Natalie Kang , WeiJie , Mingyao , JiaLei , ShiJia , Choody (?) , Yazin (?) and Xin Hui (?) for being my juniors as well as tolerating all my scoldings and nonsense .

Though I know that all of you might not continue in band , I hope we would still all stay in contact as a section . Seniors as well as juniors , bonded as a section . I know i'm in no position to say all these now , I'm neither the most senior of the senior nor the SL of the current section but then , ya .

I know all these doesn't last forever because who cares about band when you graduate , but we should all be happy that we're from the same section once before okay ?

I think the section really did well for both the songs (:
Can tell that the section is powerful and blends quite well .

and comparing to the previous batch ( by comparing SYF07 and SYF09's recording)
the intonation is MUCH MUCH better and plays more like a section
than the previous batch too (:

and lead the section well k?:D
You're already an Excellent player (: I'm sure you can lead the section better than me =D
anw , I thinks that the section is pretty pro and pretty united (compared to 2 years ago)

Yup ,I promised that today is the last day I'm going to organise Sectionals before SYF .
I trust you all to take care of your own playing skills yea ?
Won't suan any of your playings after today (unless it REALLY REALLY irritates me) :D

For today's sectional ,

I think Siewru played very well today , should play this standard DAILY . I don't think I would have played that well when I'm sec2 . ( This is my FIRST time saying that a junior played better than me during the same age ! )

Mingyao played well too , but I can see that you cares too much about your sound . Relax and stay calm k? OH! And PLS do go organise Section Outing after SYF :D

and I realised Rouyi's tone is quite good , those bright tone . Not everyone has this tone yea ? ( Ya , I think no other seniors or juniors had this kind of tone before except mine , but mine's NICER =X ) so , don't waste your tone . Play out more .

WeiJie and JiaWei did quite ok today :D

Though I've said all of you have played well ,
but I still thinks that the Tbone 2 and 3s can be better ( Tbone 1 is ok ) .

Anyway , do be careful of not knocking your mouthpiece to your mouth (like what I did this morning while setting up my tbone)-.-"
It's SUPER painful , could really kills away all the high notes for day and ends up
only playing the middle range notes just like today .

C Major , F Major , Bb , Eb and Ab scales before next next week's Friday ( That means 20th Feb )

If you're unsure of the positions for whatever , do either ask me or REFER to the notes that I've given to you all last year .
If you've thrown the notes away , go find another person in the section who has the note and photocopy the notes or something . I'm NOT going to hand-write down another notes .

Ask yourself , which SL would go to such extend to write down what Flats/Sharps affects what notes and positions that can LAST you through your secondary school band lives .

And if you all think Sectionals is a waste of time then can just tell me , I'm sure I won't ask you to come . And I SERIOUSLY don't like people to say he/she would come for sectionals this day and then either DISAPPEARING without telling me OR come sectionals and all's that in his/her mind was to quickly end the sectionals and go home .

I noe liao, my friend , Zon ask me to attend a party for baby girl whom i dun noe. I begged my parents to allow me to go and they allowed mi to go in the end.On the mrt there i met Yi Wei who is Zon's church friend. When we reahed Pasir ris, we got on the bus 17 to the place directed but we got lose there and i had to ask for directions because they still there dun dare. Then we headed over to the correct place but didnt noe which building until we folo a huge group of ppl to a place did we noe where we were going.To cut things short, i met a lot of ppl and a lot of them wanted me to attend the service but i couldnt because i had to get home by 5pm, so i left for the mrt station while they headed for the church. When i got home, i realized that they were not at home. i was so dam PISSED.
Well thats the end of my post.REALLI mis playing trombone.

Ruiyang is the current SL, and i know that he dotes on you guys alot like brothers & sisters. He always has you guys, welfare at heart. He tries to make you happy at times. He doesn't force you to bring the instruments home to practice. But there's a limit to mr nice guy. But i want to stress that you have to give in to him also ok.

Ruiyang this is to you: No more mr nice guy. Please be stricter to them. You can be nice to them but with a limit. You are a sectional leader after all.. You cant be always giving in to them and not taking.. Train them, Drill them, and make sure that every practice, it is fulfilling..

And on to the topic of the day when i went for the sectionals with trombone section. How do you think i feel about this section..? It paints a disappointed look on my face. I'm happy that you guys came for the sectionals, but you guys should try harder.. Tell me whether this kind of standard that you are having now, possible to make concert a great impacted one?
Be of some standard.

It doesn't make sense if you are just complaining that this person's not trying hard enough. that person cannot play, "I don't want to bring back the instrument, its so heavy" etc. Spare a thought for the others. If others can bring back and practice, shouldn't you be doing your part too? It may be a bit bulky, but its not impossible to bring back.

One more thing, will you always tell Ruiyang to play softer just because your playing can't be heard? Why must he be the one to play softer when you guys should be the one to play louder? It becomes a matter of whether you are willing to work harder or whether you are committed and whether you try. It's all in yourself.

Agreed some people can't play, they know it themselves. You don't have to keep reminding them that. It's already something not to be proud of. They can't play, you help them. Don't just stay aside and complain that he/she cannot play. Do something about it! You guys are a section, not a solo player. Be in tune, stay together, stay united.

Everyone was once a beginner. Me too. I started as a junior, as someone who knew nothing about band. But i worked hard. Learned from mistakes and am what i am today thanks to band, thanks to my seniors and teachers. They are a great help. I respect them alot. You guys should too. You don't think you are you today becos of urself only right?

haha. last time, ruiyang was a SL with a 'ANYTHING' attitude(good though) and hates his post(i think) cos he always.. dun really care bout sectionals too.
now, he is a MORE DECISIVE SL, (NICE, WARM N CARING?) and DEFINITELY, SUPER KIND. =) n is getting use to his SL duties.. sectionals is also more FULFILLING and fun.

Natalie was ALWAYS COMPLAINING(im not!!!) <--- Which is added by Natalie Javan was NOISY and BLAH BLAH BLAH MingYao was SO QUIET , BLUR and struggling RouYi was was always talking when I ask her to practice her part . LeeCheng was always play very soft But Now ,WeiJie is a BETTER PLAYER than me in low notes and I didn't teach him at all.(yeap. he improved a lot.) Natalie have stopped complaining. (no changes in playing!? haha.) Javan was no longer noisy and more MATURE den me..LOL! he even volunteer to sit beside KahYan even when I ask him to exchange seat with me during the rehearsal MingYao improved the most and is no longer that blur and quiet RouYi is talking lesser than before..LOL! LeeCheng 's playing can be heard le That's US , the PRO of the PRO !

They are so PRO because they are my JUNIOR..LOL!

and Natalie and WeiJie came in
and Brenda's tbone toppled -.-" for the first time, the WHOLE section's depressed but we sticked together united (:
And then ,Cultural Night ,
and SYF with JERICHO and SAFARI
and bye to Brenda , KaiYan , KahYan , XinYi and XiYan
and HELLO to RouYi , LeeCheng and MingYao
Next , we have our inspiration Concert
and soon , SiewRu , XinMin and JiaWei
and then Cultural Night
followed by Tbone outings and finally
TODAY

Though many problems we've faced
but all of us will overcome it, right?

For yesterday's performance , you all did quite well . At least TEN TIMES better than the one at Jurong CC .

Anyway , the section came in LATE!
and you all SHOULD have been farmilarized with the songs and scores so I don't see
a reason why you all came in late .
Be more ALERT .

Open your eyes BIG and WATCH the Ms Chong .
all of you were pointing trombones down , looking at the scores -.-"
Not even looking at ms Chong , what if Ms Chong wanted to signal you all about something ? Like louder or whatever?
And shouldn't you all be pointing the trombones UP?!

and I can't hear the 'HOI' and 'HEY' though you all have been sectional-ing that for HALF of the sectional?
Ms Chong's HEY and HOI was LOUDER than the whole band -.-"

and please know what you 're are doing or playing -.-"

and LUCKILY the enviroment's noisy and the section can't really be heard ,and me not being familarized with the scores , I don't hear much minor mistakes -.-"

And I can hear the ''F'A'G'F' (:
though I just realised you all played it FFAAGGFF to make it sounds more obvious -.-"

And for Stars of Dreams , Ms Chong has arranged the section ( but not the sitting arrangements)

and work hard , the set piece is coming next month .

performance on thurs, pls get your ethnic costumes ready.
hope tt u all will play up to standard.
the note bfor bar C and bar N, pls hold full valve.
at G, pls play properly. trb 1&2, pls sound. and 4th bar after G, trb 1&2, play FFAAGGFF. not as printed.
ALSO, AFTER THURS PERFORMANCE, U ARE TO WRITE A REFLECTION ON HOW WELL U THINK U PLAYED. no stupid ans is allowed. and, as long as u played for th concert you are to write th reflection. (this is esp to weijie, the band major. )

also, after every practice/sectional, u are to write reflection oso, about wat u learnt. and how u think u played tt day. no stupid ans allowed.

& also, SCORES!! your files are super messy. i dun even noe how u all can play. everytime mschong want a score then u all search like shit. i dun want to see tt anymore. after i graduate/ leave th band, then i dun care. otherwise, pls follow.
there are 1 trb1 file, 1 trb2 file and 3 trb3 file. pls make sure tt u all stick to you own part. and i do not want to c u guys playing a diff part/ a part tt u are not supposed to play.

ohya. to th particular YOU in th section, pls show some respect to me or i'll nvr show u any. get this down into ur brain. and if having a post means tt u can 为所欲为, then sorry. pls just tell me straight in th face tt u dun want to b under me, in my section. u can still be playing trb, but u need not go for sectionals or anything. furthermore, i tot u changed u noe? and i was very happy. but i guess it's just stupid me tt tot u'll change.

IDENTIFY, HEAR and LISTEN to each other's playing to each other MORE and see if you're in TUNE , BALANCE or does the sound SOUNDS LIKE A CHORDS when it is suppose to be chord . If it sounds WEIRD or FUNNY , that means something is WRONG , so ADJUST your slides , if it sounds WEIRDER or FUNNIER , adjust it in the other directions .

Go get Seventh Night Of July's recording from any Band Seniors , LISTEN IT TOGETHER WITH YOUR SCORE and try to IDENTIFY your own parts .

KNOW YOUR SCORE (NOTES AND RHYTHM), PRACTICE BASICS like TOUNGING , LEGATO , SLURING and so on when you have time

Pay ATTENTION to things like Crescendo and so on .

WRITE DOWN POINTS ON SCORES ( eg. Bar 5 play it short and blah blah)

and Cheryl will be coming back to play (:

The Concert's 3 month AWAY ONLY!
No doubt you all have improved alot indivisually.
BUT I don't want that kind of standard of playing you all put up during the Jurong CC
You're all secondary school players NOT primary school so don't play like Primary school standard -.-"

Open your ears BIG and listen to one another .
This isn't just ONE PERSON playing in the section so no point in blasting , rushing and whatever thing through the whole music .
You all already know your parts , more hard working than your seniors ( I don't see my seniors having more sectionals than you all ) but why can't you all play like their standard?

It's because you all lacks the basic , doesn't listen to one another .
Find one day , practice BREATHING , BUZZING , LIPS SLURS , TOUGING , SLURs , Tune in to one another , play chords as a section ,Tightening of Stomach when playing and bite a metal rod with your lips ( not teeth) and balance it 90 degree for some times .

Practice all these and I'm sure you all can play ALOT better than before

and REMEMBER , Borrow scores home and READ all scores . Because it makes everyone's job easier if everyone knows their parts . JIAYOU , you all can still make it .

and BORROW your mouthpiece home EVERYDAY after band .
Just bring it home , I don't want to see them in your cases rotting .
Bring home and practice buzzing .
You all can bring home JUST FOR DECORATION too but
JUST BRING HOME YOUR MOUTPIECE !

AND let's all help XinMin and JiaWei if they needed help .
If can , I'll try to drag her into the main band (:
They CAN play some parts of Eighties and Latin's Favourite .

Songs that have solo like Cotton Ferry , Seventh Night and Video Games LIVE

and remember to get SOMEONE in the section to take up the
Cotton Ferry's solo -.-"

and also , another person to learn Video Game 's solo in case no alumni comes back to take that part ( which is highly possible that none will come back because Natalie Lim says she probably won't be back and I doubt Brenda's batch will return as well . Let's pray for Cheryl to come back and take that part since Natalie Lim says she MOST likely would be back )

and a back up solo players for each of the 3 songs that have solos ( yeah . DIFFERENT PEOPLE! That means if PLAYER A plays solo for cotton ferry , PLAYER A cannot be a backup player or play other solo part)

and then we will have 3 different people playing 3 different solos

WHY?
Because when there's a solo part , all of you would sit there , look around and see who's playing ( which NO ONE is playing esp Seventh Night !I'm sure you all missed that solo bar for more than 3 times ) and then that particular whole phrase is SOUNDLESS .

IN CONCLUSION , just get 6 people in the section and split 2 to one solo .

i dunno y ruiyang praise juniors until lidat?!
haha. last time, ruiyang was a SL with a 'ANYTHING' attitude(good though) and hates his post(i think) cos he always.. dun really care bout sectionals too.
now, he is a MORE DECISIVE SL, (NICE, WARM N CARING?) and DEFINITELY, SUPER KIND. =) n is getting use to his SL duties.. sectionals is also more FULFILLING and fun.

thus, we are PRO becos of him. :D (see below. the coloured sentence.)

Last time ,WeiJie was STRUGGLING very hard with the pieces
Natalie was ALWAYS COMPLAINING(im not!!!)
Javan was NOISY and BLAH BLAH BLAH
MingYao was SO QUIET , BLUR and struggling
RouYi was was always talking when I ask her to practice her part .
LeeCheng was always play very soft
But Now ,WeiJie is a BETTER PLAYER than me in low notes and I didn't teach him at all.(yeap. he improved a lot.)
Natalie have stopped complaining. (no changes in playing!? haha.)
Javan was no longer noisy and more MATURE den me..LOL! he even volunteer to sit beside KahYan even when I ask him to exchange seat with me during the rehearsal
MingYao improved the most and is no longer that blur and quiet

4 More months to the Concert thingy , so you all more work hard ...
You have improved quite alot but you all have to improve in a Faster Rate .
Don't forget , the End of Year exam is coming in 1 or 2 months time and Band-Break again ...
Often when you all comes back from break , your standard of playing will drop that's why
it is quite important to bring back instrument to practice so your standard of playing will maintaned or even improve .

this year Sec1 may be abit rush because you all started band practice late because of the SYF .
so you all have to work EXTRA hard . Erm , Natalie and WeiJie used to bring instrument back
home when they're sec1 , well ...I don't expect all of you to bring instrument home every practice but try to bring mouthpiece home and buzz =)

Well...like Big Natalie have said , everyone's a beginner before .

and then Natalie and WeiJie , try to be more confident in playing ...it's not that you all played softly but you all need to project your sound out more...both of you have nice tones :)

just blogging to say sorry to the seniors. yeap. until now then i realise how tough being a senior is; much less an SL.

ruiyang.. i was joking with u bout playing softer la. by playing at ur present volume, u are actually leading and showing me the way when im lost at times. i will 100% work harder and play LOUDER. yeap.

the seniors have my word tt i will work harder and do my best to improve in my playing.

HEY trombone section.
I'm here once again. Bloggin' out to you guys..
And no, don't expect miss nice girl from me. Because you are in for some lecture. Please read below as to what i've got to say about this section. Though i do not know the trombone section sec 1 juniors. I know the rest.

Ruiyang is the current SL, and i know that he dotes on you guys alot like brothers & sisters. He always has you guys, welfare at heart. He tries to make you happy at times. He doesn't force you to bring the instruments home to practice. But there's a limit to mr nice guy. But i want to stress that you have to give in to him also ok.

Ruiyang this is to you: No more mr nice guy. Please be stricter to them. You can be nice to them but with a limit. You are a sectional leader after all.. You cant be always giving in to them and not taking. make sure that every practice, it is fulfilling.
I know it's abit hard to correct the section on their playings . Even I had such problems with my juniors before . Have more patience with them and not just give up on them whenever they have trouble adjusting to the rhythm /articulations . You can't just wait for miracles to happen yea?

You people are having a concert this year end. Shouldn't you guys be more obliging and bring home your instruments to practice willingly? Don't tell me that you don't want the concert to be a success?

And on to the topic of the day when i went for the sectionals with trombone section. How do you think i feel about this section..? It paints a disappointed look on my face. I'm happy that you guys came for the sectionals, but you guys should try harder.. Tell me whether this kind of standard that you are having now, possible to make concert a great impacted one?

Tell me what goes through your mind.. What does all this tell u? What does your heart think? Do you think you are good enough? Do you think you can improve? Im sure you can. With the right mindset.. With the needed cooperation from the members.

And im curious but are you guys proud of your instrument? Or you just treat it as something you need in band. After band, something that you just chuck away in the store until the next practice? Its given to you. Respect it. Play well.. Make the band proud. Be of some standard.

It doesn't make sense if you are just complaining that this person's not trying hard enough. that person cannot play, "I don't want to bring back the instrument, its so heavy" etc. Spare a thought for the others. If others can bring back and practice, shouldn't you be doing your part too? It may be a bit bulky, but its not impossible to bring back.

One more thing, will you always tell Ruiyang to play softer just because your playing can't be heard? Why must he be the one to play softer when you guys should be the one to play louder? It becomes a matter of whether you are willing to work harder or whether you are committed and whether you try. It's all in yourself.

Agreed some people can't play, they know it themselves. You don't have to keep reminding them that. It's already something not to be proud of. They can't play, you help them. Don't just stay aside and complain that he/she cannot play. Do something about it! You guys are a section, not a solo player. Be in tune, stay together, stay united.

Everyone was once a beginner. Me too. I started as a junior, as someone who knew nothing about band. But i worked hard. Learned from mistakes and am what i am today thanks to band, thanks to my seniors and teachers. They are a great help. I respect them alot. You guys should too. You don't think you are you today becos of urself only right?

Lastly, I sincerely appeal to you guys to help each other out.. Seniors should know what to do, I don't have to teach you. If you guys care, you know what to do. Its all said and done. I don't have to teach further. Work harder, Put more priority in band.

so many thing to work on...

The Sec1s in the 2nd and 3rd trombone , don't always depend on WeiJie . All of you already know Bb and abit of Eb scales ,
so it should'nt be much problem in reading notes . As for rethym , you can ask your seniors , they SHOULD know the rethym .
You all will be performing in the Junior Band at the End of Year Concert and some senior might not be playing with you all in the Junior Band that means , the trombone section only left you all... so work hard :)

so... that's what. if you didn't, just practice much more harder to get back your tone lor.
only advice i can give... don't give up. not right now. that includes the sec 1s. since you people have come so far... just carry on with it. if not, you will lose alot of valuable things in this place, the band, that is. if you have the passion, just go for it. be more daring. life is like a dare and there are risks you must take to achieve what you want. so... try your best to do your best.

HII TROMBONE SECTION! It's really been a long while since it was updated yah? Dunno since when. Yupx. Hmm.. Keep asking me to update then i forget the username. heehee. I hope it's not too late to talk 'bout the cultural night? hee~

Okaye. hmm.. It you really want my serious opinion it was really nice to hear. I could hear all trombone 1 and 2. Trombone 3 abit only lah. But i know xiyan is always trying his best to play well. Hmm.. Keith(saf) also say it's not bad. Just that a certain parts can be improved lahs. You all know which part ya? I can safely say that trombone section has come a long way since the time i was gone. You all have improved alot. Proud of you all. Really and so is cheryl, your senior.

Oh.. And Congrats to Brenda, on becoming trombone sections new SL. Hope all of you will respect her and listen to her okay?

Hmm. I wanna update about today's sectionals ar. If any trombonists got read. Please post your comment at the tagboard. Hmm. My first impression when i went up to the 4th floor i could hear you all play. First impression was WOW! You all play very loud. i was shocked. hahas. Maybe due to the echo ba. But the sound was quite nice. Continue working hard and bring back your instrument to practice okay? hmm. Today teached kaiyan, xinyi and xiyan. hmm. what i want to say is that i can teach you the same thing for like a million times but you have to remember. Once i teach you the rhythm, dont play back the old one. It's no different from teaching and not teaching if you play back the old rhythm when i taught you the correct rhythm. I dun mind continue teaching you all sectionals and i dont mind coming for every band sectionals so long as you all are willing to learn to play together as a team trombonists. Hope what i said will be of help. But overall i had fun with all of you.. Thanks alot! Also wanna thank Jolinne for teaching trombone section and bringing trombone secton to greater heights.
